Fall ImageFall Newsletter - October 2005

Thank you for your enthusiastic and prompt attendance at orientation. We finished in under an hour and the school’s first day was made very smooth. Our transition policy of porch arrivals and departures has been extremely successful for the children, with far easier movement into their day and more time for them to play, explore, and work as a result. Thank you for all your support and cooperation.

Usually it is cooler on the mountain in the morning. It’s a good idea to dress in layers that the staff can peel off as temperatures rise. Change of clothing is necessary at all times, underwear and outerwear. If something goes home it should be replaced the following day.

Everyone needs rubber boots that easily slide off and on for outdoor play – many of ours are too big (or too yucky) to be enticing or comfortable.

Lunches have been going well as everyone adjusts to new schedules and new friends.

What We're Doing

We started formal math in the AMs right away with various materials, personal books, and monthly calendars (for those who have the interest). Language Arts takes place all day in an infinite variety of ways – which you will see and we’ll go into at our parent/teacher meeting in October.

We have started on seasonal studies and projects including fall on our mountain, animals who live here, harvest foods, and all aspects of Halloween fun: stories, songs, sculptural hats, foods, art; Native American studies (come November) with a new tepee.

We are glad you chose to be with us at New Moon this year!
